From the South July 2026

“Look well to the South!”

These words were a direct command given to me as I was being installed Junior Warden of our Lodge this year.  They serve as a reminder of my responsibilities regarding the management, harmony and conduct of our lodge members.

Just as the South represents the “beauty and glory of the day”, the Junior Warden stands as the symbolic Pillar of Beauty in the South.  I didn’t accept this role to temporary fill a void, but instead, to work to cultivate the internal beauty, spiritual consciousness, and moral integrity among our Brothers.

It’s my sincere hope that through my own hard work, and devotion to the craft and our lodge, I may inspire many brothers to return to their rightful and true place amongst our assembly.

In June of 1995, I had the honor of being installed as a Steward of Smithtown Lodge.  Each year since, many devoted Brothers have served the lodge in that same role.  In fact, in 2012 we boasted four installed Stewards.  However, at this year’s Ceremony of Installation, we sadly had none.

As the Lodge sits dark and dormant for the summer months, I’m asking that at least two brothers “look well to the South”.  Act by the plumb.  Stand up, step up and become a Steward.  Your lodge and brothers need you.
